No question about it, radio frequency identification (RFID) has many potential benefits for the consumer packaged goods industry (CPG) beyond the immediate retailer compliance issues. Some of these are being realized today in the RFID pilot studies. Others will come with advances and global standardization of technology and wider adoption across the CPG industry. But the true benefit of RFID is being able to link information from the supply side to in-store movement information which could dramatically reduce out-of-stocks, avoid product counterfeiting, cut shrink and provide valuable insights into what consumers really want.
RFID: Insights Beyond the Bar Code is the ACNielsen global RFID news and information source for the CPG industry. In each edition, we will keep you posted on the latest updates from key retailers, new RFID technology and services, research & development, and ACNielsen’s information applications of RFID generated data.
